VMware - Expand Zadara Backed Datastore

Summary

Expanding a datastore backed by a Zadara VPSA is a straight-forward process that can be accomplished using the following 3 steps.

1) Expand Volume in VPSA GUI

2) Rescan storage devices in ESXi

3) Expand datastore in ESXi

 

1) Expand Volume in VPSA GUI

From the VPSA GUI visit the volume section, select the volume to expand, then click the expand button

Enter number of GB to expand by and click submit

 

2) Rescan storage devices in ESXi

Select host >> Configure >> Storage Devices >> Rescan and Refresh Storage

Device should show with the new, expanded capacity

 

3) Expand Datastore in ESXi

Select host >> Configure >> Datastores >> Select Datastore >> Increase Capacity

Select device to expand

Select "Use 'Free space X GB' to expand the the datastore" and select the amount to increase by

Verify info and Finish

Datastore is now expanded
